Formerly known as Tower Sound, Newton Abbot Hospital Radio was established in 1979 with the goal of enhancing the hospital experience for patients through engaging, personalised radio broadcasts. For over four decades, Tower Sound played a vital role in bringing comfort, companionship, and a sense of connection to those receiving care at Newton Abbot Hospital. The station, operated by dedicated volunteers, offered a mix of music, patient requests, and health-related content designed to uplift spirits and alleviate the sense of isolation that often accompanies a hospital stay.
On 14th March 2023, Tower Sound was officially merged into the Torbay and South Devon Hospital Radio family, marking a new chapter in the station’s history. This merger allowed us to extend our reach, expanding our services to hospitals across the wider South Devon area. While the name “Tower Sound” is no longer in use, the legacy of the station continues through the dedication of our team, who remain passionate about providing meaningful content that resonates with patients, staff, and the community alike.
Now operating as Torbay and South Devon Hospital Radio, our station remains committed to its original purpose of delivering uplifting, informative, and entertaining programming to those in hospital care. Whether through music, special features, or live broadcasts, we strive to make each listener’s experience a little brighter. We’re proud to carry on the tradition started in 1979, ensuring that our local hospital community continues to receive the very best in radio broadcasting.
