This week celebrates “Volunteers Week” (1st – 7th June 2020) – Torbay Hospital Radio have been broadcasting since 1977, with thanks to the League of Friends who helped with the studios we are in today. Fast forward 43 years and we are still going strong.
How, you may ask? Well, we have an amazing team of over 20 volunteers providing entertainment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the patients and staff of Torbay Hospital.
Even during the lockdown, our dedicated and truly wonderful team of volunteers have gone above and beyond by broadcasting from home.
Hospital radio has always been considered to provide a crucial service but now, more than ever, it has gained traction in the media thanks to the services they provide to staff and patients within hospitals across the nation.
I’d like to thank every single member of the team, from our newest of just a few months, to our longest-serving member of over 34 years, for all the hard work, support and dedication that you give to Torbay Hospital Radio and, more importantly, the patients and staff of Torbay Hospital. It was Winston Churchill who once said: ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’ So if you are interested in joining the team, please get in touch!”
Here is an interview by ITV News with one of our presenters – Paul Harding.
